Thanks to my good buddy Matt - I had the opportunity to go see the 'Evening with Roger Waters' concert at GM Place last week. Not only that... the seats were in one of the GM Place luxury suites!
The accommodations were unbelievable. Free food (sushi, wings, vegetables, pizza...), free booze (although I suspect _someone_ was paying for it ;-)) and great seats almost straight across from the stage.
As far as the music goes, it too was unbelievable. I've been to 3 Pink Floyd concerts (1 in '88 and 2 in '94) and I felt Roger was on par with those shows. His first set was made up of Floyd classics (In the Flesh, Mother, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun (nice!), Shine On, Have a Cigar, Wish You Were Here, Southampton Dock, The Fletcher Memorial Home) and some of his solo stuff (Perfect Sense, Parts 1 and 2 and a new one called Leaving Beirut). Finally the set ended with Sheep.
The second set was Dark Side - cover to cover. Unbelievable. I just wish the album was longer.
Finally, the encore was The Happiest Days of Our Lives, Another Brick in the Wall, Part II, Vera, Bring the Boys Back Home & Comfortably Numb.
The band too blew me away. The guitar playing - especially Snowy White's guitar work was awesome and the drumming by Graham Broad was incredible. And let me tell you, Great Gig in the Sky sung by Carol Kenyon brought tears to my eyes.... just as it should ;-) It was fantastic.
Can't say enough about the concert - was about as good as it gets.
